Abstract

Molecular biological approaches will be used to clone receptors activated by endogenous neuropeptides of the Phe-Met-Arg-Phe-NH2 (FMRFamide) family from the central nervous system and skeletal muscle of the desert locust, Schistocerca gregaria. The potential capacity of the nervous system to express different endogenous neuropeptides of this family will be assessed by cloning and sequencing cDNAs encoding their polyprotein precursor molecules. The ability of the various endogenous agonists to differentially couple these receptors to different second messengers and ion channels will be assessed.
