Abstract

We propose to develop a reverse genetics system for the chicken birnavirus, infectious bursal disease virus, using fowlpox virus vectors. The system will be applicable to other segmented and non-segmented RNA viruses and will allow: the study of replication and assembly, the identification of hypervirulence mutation(s) in a recently emerged IBDV variant, which we have sequenced, and the rapid development of new vaccines in response to future threats.
