Abstract
Neutrophic factors (NTFs) induce secretion of inflammatory mediators from mast cells (MC) via specific receptors. This is likely the cause of adverse reactions in clinical trials of NTFs as therapeutics in neurodegenerative disease. We will develop MC models in vitro use as alternatives to explore toxic mechanisms of new NTFs. Additionally, since rat peritoneal MC synthesise and release bioactive NTFs we will explore how and whether other mast cells types to likewise. We will pharmacologically manipulate MC-NTF production as they may be used as bio-implants.
