Abstract

Mutations will be generated in Arabidopsis and tomato plants by conventional mutagenic techniques and individuals from the M2 populations screened for aberrant abscission characteristics. The screens will focus on the identification of mutations that affect floral part abscission or pod dehiscence in Arabidopsis and the shedding of cotyledons in tomato. The nature of the abscission deficiency will be investigated and mutants exhibiting a failure in zone cell differentiation identified. The genetic characteristics of these plants will be investigated.
