Abstract

I aim to define the function of the Arabidopsis developmental regulator ABI3 in initiating commitment of embryo cells to developmental arrest (dormancy). I propose to clone candidate proteins that interact with ABI3, and to identify which parts of the ABI3 protein are required for function in-vivo and in-vitro. I will exploit new methodologies to pinpoint when ABI3 expression is required to initiate commitment to dormancy. This integrated approach will provide detailed information about the molecular mechanism that determines initiation of the transition of cells to the dormant embryo fate.
