Abstract

The objectives of the proposed research are to: a) identify by screening of mutagenised populations of Arabidopsis, genes which are involved in establishing polarity in the microspore and the activation of late pollen gene expression, both of which are required for correct pollen differentiation; b) identify by molecular cloning genes expressed specifically during polarity establishment in the microsphore, and c) identify external and internal cellular factors which are involved in the coordinated activation of the vegetative cell-specific gametophytic gene expression programme.
