Abstract

The equipment requested in this proposal will be used in a number of programmes in photosynthesis, bioenergetics and metalloprotein research. It has an expected lifetime of 10 to 15 years. The immediate programme will involve: investigation of the structure and mechanism of the water oxidising Mn complex of Photosystem II and investigation of the path of electron transfer in the photosystem I reaction centre using site directed mutants of Chlamydomonas reinhardtii and Synechocystis 6803. Techniques involving use of the equipment include CW EPR spectroscopy in perpendicular and parallel mode, electron spin echo kinetic measurements in the ns-ms time range, electron spin echo envelope modulation, HYSCORE, and pulsed ENDOR.
