Abstract

Lipid rafts play a crucial role in diverse cell processes including protein targeting. Some proteins that form complexes with lipid rafts (e.g. MAL in kidney epithelial cells) may play regulatory roles in raft-mediated function. Cytosolic proteins that interact with lipid raft complexes will be vital for the diversity of functions observed. We have identified a MAL homologue, MRP, that has a more widespread distribution and is likely to have a more ubiquitous role in lipid raft-mediated function than MAL. MRP interacts with a cytosolic protein, CRHSP28, that has been proposed to function in secretagogue-mediated protein secretion. The aim of the proposal is to define a role for both MRP and CRHSP28 in lipid raft-mediated protein secretion.
