Abstract

To identify substrate water specifically bound to the water oxidising complex of photosystem II. To characterise the water binding site and develop models of the mechanism of water oxidation. The proposal asks for funds for the purchase of a pulsed ENDOR attachment for the Bruker ESP380 pulsed. The equipment would be delivered within 6 months of the start of the grant. Initial work to establish the technique and obtain basic data for the water oxidising system would occupy about 6 months. During the second year refinement of sample preparation and data collection with detailed analysis would result in an advanced model of the mechanism of water oxidation.
