Abstract

The aim of the proposal is to (i) continue with our detailed analysis of the structure of the B800-850 antenna complex from Rps. acidophila (ii) to complete the structure of the B800- 820 antenna complex from Rps. acidophila (iii) to use pigment replacement of the B800 Bchla to study the mechanism of energy transfer in LH2 (iv) to improve our crystals of both LH1-RC core complexes and the LH2 from Rb. sphaeroides and (v) to begin to study the structure of site-directed mutant LH2s from either sphaeroides or acidophila.
