Abstract

The objective of this research programme is to obtain high-resolution kinetic and structural information on the fundamental mechanisms of viral infection. The work will be undertaken using a newly developed and unique time-resolved microfluorimeter that will provide spatial resolution within 5 angstrom and time based information within 0.5 seconds. The experimental work will be aimed at identifying the molecular mechanisms and regulatory processes that govern adenovirus-cell receptor interactions. The findings will lead to a better understanding of the viral infection process that may assist in the optimisation of gene therapy techniques.
