Abstract

The immune system has evolved clonal selection mechanisms to prevent the development of B cells which would generate autoreactive antibodies. We have shown that phospholipase A2 (cPLA2) has a maturation-restricted expression using B cell development, being expressed and activated only in B cells undergoing apoptosis, suggesting that cPLA2 could play a key role in B cell repertoire selection. We shall define (i) whether cPLA2 transduces apoptotic signals and (ii) the molecular mechanisms underlying regulation of cPLA2 expression during B cell development.
