Abstract

We will characterise the effects of two new inhibitors of the cytochrome bf complex. These are the most potent and specific known to date for the two quinone binding sites of the enzyme. Screening for new inhibitory compounds will be extended. Functional studies will be extended with the development of a photochemical reduction system to study the reaction of cytochrome f with its redox partners, with the protein chemical characterisation of b-559LP, and with the extension of our methods for detection of chlororespiratory enzymes to intact leaves, to Chlamydomonas, and to cyanobacteria.
