Abstract

The aim of the project is to elucidate pathways of membrane and organelle biogenesis in the mammalian testis. An integrated ultrastructural and molecular biological approach will be used to investigate sperm assembly mechanisms. Using specific antibodies and corresponding cDNA probes we will trace gene transcription and translation in spermatocytes and spermatids. Particular attention will be paid to post meiotic events. Intracellular trafficking and targeting signals of synthesized proteins will be investigated. The project will provide insights into sperm structural and functional heterogeneity within ejaculates.
