Abstract

We are funded to develop a transgenic model of human prion disease using mice expressing human prion protein. We can now report initial transmissions of human prion disease to these mice and request supplementary funding for the remaining year of this study to enable us to carry out larger scale transmission work, and extension of funding for a further 3 years. This transmission facility is unique in Europe and now allows us to address a wide range of questions on the human prion diseases and the human species barrier to BSE and scrapie.
