Abstract

With a combination of experimental work and pore-scale modelling we will determine the cause of differences between the hydraulic properties of the rhizosphere and bulk soil. We seek to establish the importance of changes to the pore-space geometry induced by root activity and modifications to surface tension due to root exudates to these hydraulic properties. This work will lead to an improved understanding of water movement and convective transport processes through the rhizosphere.
