Abstract

To develop a wavelet-based neural network systems for predicting the structural class and function of protein sequences. This will involve a number of important innovations, including: evaluating the suitability of different wavelet transforms for preprocessing protein data; exploiting a range of physico chemical properties attributable to amino- acid sequences and the development of strategies for combining different properties in intelligent ways; and the use of sophisticated neural network architectures specifically designed for wavelet- transformed data sets. We also propose to exploit modern rule-extraction techniques in order to give our neural networks real explanatory power.
