Abstract

Molecular biology databases are rapidly proliferating. The heterogeneity and complexity of these resources pose considerable challenges both to users or the resources and to developers of source integration systems. However, activities to develop source integration systems currently either replicate work on the resolution of semantic heterogeneities between sources, or have yet to address the problem. This project has two major objectives: (1) To systematically identify and describe the contents and semantic heterogeneities of bioinformatics sources. (2) To develop a software architecture that supports the description and analysis of the heterogeneities between the sources, so that they can be shared and examined by the wider community.
