Abstract
The Natural History Museum has an urgent need to find ways of computerising archive card indexes to support initiatives in Biodiversity. This project proposes a novel interactive method of archive conversion which will exploit research into new methods of content addressing to extend a current commercial form OCR system. A demonstration interactive conversion system utilising a specific Lepidoptera archive will be developed, and evaluated against current manual conversion methods, and in interactive use on demand over the Internet. Systems developed through the project will have potential application in museums, libraries and archives all over the world. (Joint with grant BIO11938).
