Abstract

The proposal aims to establish a UK Crop Plant Bioinformatics Network to provide databases for managing, analysing and communicating information obtained from the major crop plant genome projects in the UK. These projects produce genetic and physical maps, mapping probes, and genome sequence. These resources provide tools for breeding and other activities and permit the isolation of genes of agricultural importance from the major groups of plants using map-based methods. The Network will develop a common informatics infrastructure servicing these activities which will permit future detailed studies of synteny across wide phylogenetic boundaries, will distribute data to users, and will allow effective interaction with other databases.
