Abstract

Protein secondary structure prediction is the most general and reliable way of obtaining structural information from protein sequence data. The program DSC is an accurate and widely used prediction program based on simple statistics. It is aimed to develop the world's most accurate prediction method by extending DSC using advanced statistical and machine learning methods. Improvements in DSC will be made by: refining the statistics, forming better alignments (using the new technique of stochastic logic programming), more intelligent use of alignments, and knowledge based modification of predictions. The work will be done in collaboration with Glaxo-Wellcome and the Imperial Cancer Research Fund.
