Abstract
This application proposes the development of a novel method of protein sequence databank searching. This method combines the approach of fast databank search methods (BLAST and FASTA) with those of the slower, but more accurate methods (such as profiles or hidden Markov models). Based on the performance of a protoype program, both these ideals can be approached simultaneously. Following full development and testing, the method will be implemented using a distributed computation model based on the meta-computing approach used at Paderborn (PC2) and accessing the sequences at the EBI via an interface there.
