Abstract

This proposal seeks to develop and deploy bioinformatics tools for the analysis of patterns of genetic diversity in germplasm collections revealed by SSR and retrotransposon-based molecular markers. We will develop analytical and visualisation tools to maximise the information content of these data. This will involve the formulation of stochastic models of marker evolution allied to maximum likelihood theory to estimate the evolutionary structures of germplasm collections, together with simulation tools for hypothesis testing and specialist visualisation tools. A WWW site will be developed to exploit our results, to allow the user community to interrogate intelligently the germplasm data and to make available the bioinformatics tools.
