Abstract
This work aims to use a molecular biological approach to the rational design of new fungicides based on inhibition of fungal polyamine biosynthesis. Polyamine biosynthesis genes will be cloned from plant pathogenic fungi and their host plant. These genes will be used to manipulate polyamine metabolism in the fungi as the basis for development of a smart screen. Genes will also be expressed in E. coli so that purified proteins can be studied at the biochemical or structural level.
