Abstract

The objectives of the proposed work are (i) to synthesise functional hydrophobic ferritins capable of high solubility in organic solvents, (ii) to study the uptake and mineralisation properties of native and modified proteins in organic media, and (iii) to utilise native ferritin and hydrophobic derivatives in the synthesis of protein-encapsulated nanocomposites with potential use as biocompatible reagents with magnetic, catalytic or photochemical properties.
