Abstract

Recent work at Birmingham and elsewhere at the small pilot scale has led to a considerable increase in the understanding of how agitation affects the physical and biological parameters associated with mycelial fermentations. Here, it is intended to use this understanding to guide an experimental programme at the eight meters cubed scale which will enable the smaller scale biochemical engineering science based predictions to be validated. Secondly, the body of knowledge thus available will be used to enhance fed batch fermentation performance at the eight meters cubed scale again with validation. The results will be unique and publishable.
