Abstract

This project will endeavour to form links with African researchers to better understand, identify and define areas in the ‘One Health’ theme that: a.) Are aligned with Africa’s own science and technology strategic goals and meet their population’s most pressing needs; b.) May be tractable through application of synthetic biology and/or state-of-art gene editing technologies. To do this, we will leverage Edinburgh existing strong links to Africa across both human and animal health. After the connections have been made we will organise visits to those most interested in synthetic biology to better understand the specific challenge identified, get insight into local constraints in research and its funding, and to identify on the best route for collaboration going forward.
