Abstract

This projects related to TGAC involvement in the ELIXIR-UK node where we take the led as the hub for Train the Trainer activities. This grant aims to cover five key events: NGS Trainers Workshop, (Q4 on 2013, 2014 & 2015). This workshop will provide a platform to harmonise such efforts and share best practice as well as actual materials. This workshop aims to combine sessions on actual training methodologies, technologies and education concepts (e.g. learning preferences, interactivity as a tool to increase learning intake) with actual design of face-to-face courses on the topic of NGS data analysis and contents that are more suitable for online-based learning. In order to ensure trainers can work during the actual workshop in materials relevant to their own training, cohorts of trainers working with set organisms and models will be used for selecting participants in the three workshops: 1) 2013 (plant research); 2) 2014 (pathogens-bacteria and viruses); 3) 2015 mammals (stock animals). Training the Trainers: bringing in innovation from other disciplines. These Immersive Exploratory Workshops (Q1 2014-2015) aim to explore innovation by exchanging ideas and practice in other sectors into Bioinformatics/Computational Biology Training. Experts from sociology, education psychology, information and communication technology will intensively network and brainstorm with Bioinformatics Trainers.
