Abstract
This short project will examine potential methods for automatically controlling the orientation, position and trajectory of a typical agri-food product. Relevant to the BBSRC Agri-Food Committee support of quality and efficiency throughout the food chain, and specifically the Food Manufacturing programme. Foresight priorities that are relevant include sensors, design and systems integration, process engineering and control. The benefits will be a better understanding of the potential for providing new systems to meet industry's needs, and a basis for further project proposals. There is scope to develop flexible automation systems for handling and packing individual delicate products in the agri-food industry. These would deal with the sorting and packing of randomly presented streams of variable products.
