Abstract

This project has two components: 1. To continue the genome wide scan of F2s from selection lines differing genetically 5-fold in fat content (the F-lines) to identify QTL. 2. The identification and analysis of candidate genes found within the 500kd deletion in the high growth rate mice (which affects growth rate and mature body size and arose spontaneously during a selection experiment). Molecular cloning of the high growth gene in mice will permit studies of the homologous gene in farm animals which may help identify a QTL for rapid and efficient growth in these species.
