Abstract
This project is used as a platform to support grants from EUand BBSRC and to obtain funding from other bodies. The analysis of a large body of data from a broiler x layer cross is conducted and there is extensive collaboration with other scientists in the analysis of marker-trait association in experimental and commercial flocks. A Broiler x Layer Advanced Intercross will be created for fine-mapping studies. The outcome of the project will be information on the locations of genes underlying economically important traits affecting food production, animal health and welfare, and human well being. Methodological improvements in techniques for identifying and utilising such genes will be made.
