Abstract

The aim of the project is the development of a robust method for production of transgenic chickens. We have developed a method for culture of chick embryos to hatch from the zygote stage. This method enables us to manipulate the chick embryo before the first cell division. We have shown that microinjection of gene constructs at this stage may result in the production of germline transgenic birds. The project is focussed on increasing the frequency of production of germline transgenic birds by increasing embryo survival in culture and increasing the frequency of incorporation of foreign genes in the germline.
