Abstract

Ensuring the availability of suitable computational biology analysis software installations in conjunction with Harpenden and the Roslin IT group. This currently includes both EMBOSS and other packages on the Linux machines and Vector NTI on the desktop machines. 1) Provision and maintenance of local copies of public and private sequence and other datasets in conjunction with Harpenden (public data set provision) and key local groups (Bioinformatics group, ARK-Genomics and others). 2) Provision and maintenance of local sequence search capabilities using those locally available data sets in conjunction with Harpenden and the key local groups and maintenance of a list of those search sets to inform all research groups. 3) Ensuring that the configuration of local Vector NTI installations utilises those local search provisions. 4) Provision of tailored local training in computational biology analysis tools and techniques for small groups, using materials provided by Harpenden and developed locally. 5) Provision of small-scale analysis service to support low- usage groups. 6) Provision of advice on analysis tools via regular `drop-in clinic. 7) Investigation of novel algorithm and tool development ahead of requirements. 8) Evangelisation of computational biology analysis possibilities through pro-active interaction with research groups. 9) Provision of strategic advice to IS/IT Strategy Committee on computational biology analysis requirements and opportunities.
