Abstract

Entirely new opportunities in medicine and biology are being created by the demonstration that mammalian cells and nuclii have a far wider developmental ability than previously understood. Understanding of the mechanisms that regulate developmental ability of the nucleus is required if full advantage is to be taken of these opportunities. This project will contibute knowledge by identifying factors that influence development of cloned mouse embryos and assessing them and analysing their mechanism by discovering if the effects are additive. In addition, this will provide the intellectual and technical framework for collaborative studies of their cellular and molecular basis. Factors to be analysed including a comparison of G0 and G1 phase of the cell cycle in donor cells of the same phenotype, serial transfer and a method of chemical enucleation.
