Abstract
The hydrogenases and nitrogenases possess extraordinary metallo- sulphur assemblies at which substrate binding and activation is integrated with electron - transfer chemistry. We study the chemistry and electrochemistry of extracted, synthetic and model metallo-sulphur systems to understand how these key enzymes function at the molecular level. We use this and structural knowledge to explore how artificial systems might be assembled for catalysis or electrocatalysis of nitrogen fixation and hydrogen evolution/uptake.
