Abstract

Sustainable agriculture Harvest index (HI) is a fundamental determinant of seed yield in a range of species including oilseed rape. Increased HI will represent an important improvement in the agronomy and sustainability of oilseed rape. This project addresses the problem of poor HI by using novel populations (new combinations of oilseed rape cultivars) and an exotic population (TN; derived from a wide cross between a typical European and a typical Chinese variety) to develop a better understanding of the genetic control of canopy architecture traits that are components of HI.
