Abstract

Plant viruses cause serious economic losses, being one of the most limiting factors in European crop production and having negative effects on the quality and safety of foodstuffs. As ongoing research is showing, the use of genetic resistance represents one of the best ways to control plant viruses. This Co-ordination Action CONVERGER-CA of 14 participant institutions will: i) to facilitate networking of stakeholders in the use of genetic resistance to control plant viruses, ii) co-ordinate research and other activities going on in Europe, reinforcing the ERA, and iii) disseminate new knowledge and information related to the issue. These objectives will be implemented through: the creation and maintenance of a Database and a Website; the performance of studies aimed to co-ordinate research activities; and the organisation of Workshops and an International Conference to review the state-of-the-art on the topic.
