Abstract

The overall objective of this project is the large scale production in plants of targeting immunostimulating structures. These are designed as generic vehicles to allow the oral immunisation of pigs against a number of important pathogens. The project consists of three principle components: (1) The construction of immunostimulating-structures which can target antigens to the enteric tract (2). The expression of immunostimulating-structures at high levels in plants using recently developed ¿plant replicon¿ systems (3). Analysis of the efficacy and safety of the plant-derived immunostimulating-structures and a comparison with the properties of the material expressed in mammalian cells.
