Abstract

This project was to establish and run an EU-funded Marie Curie training site to train non-UK EU research students in bacterial functional genomics, a fairly new discipline in which knowledge of whole genome sequences is used to investigate the activity of (ideally) all the genes in an organism. The project was split between IFR Norwich (the lead organisation, working on disease-causing bacteria) and JIC Norwich, whose role was to focus on methods newly developed at JIC to investigate antibiotic-producing Streptomyces, a subject in which JIC has been the world leader for several decades. This project has established valuable collaborations and led to a series of joint papers in leading international journals.
