Abstract

The objectives are 1) to decipher the regulation of flavonoid biosynthesis, 2) to produce engineered plants tailored for synthesis of flavonoid and phenolic phytoprotectants, 3) to contribute to the molecular and biochemical tools to assist plant breeding and risk assessment. We will contribute to objective 1 through the isolation and biochemical characterisation of transcription factors that regulate phenylpropanoid metabolism. Objective 2 will be served by engineering expression of these transcription factors in tomato fruit to manipulate the quantity and quality of phenlypropanoids accumulated. We will contribute DNA probes for transcript profiling on microarrays for the realisation of 3.
