Abstract

The molecular interaction of the floral pathways that control vernalization requirement and response in Arabidopsis will be analysed. Downstream components of the FRIGIDA repression, FCA promotion and vernalization promotion pathways will be defined. This will identify new flowering time genes, uncover at which point the different pathways converge and address their antagonistic action. Simultaneously, orthologues of FCA and FRI will be isolated from barley and wheat. These will be mapped and the allelic variation at these loci analysed to address the molecular basis of vernalization requirement in different cereals. Orthologues of candidate targets of FRI and FCA will be identified and mapped in barley.
