Abstract

This project is funded under the EU Biotechnology FPIV programme as part of the European Gramineae mapping project (EGRAM). The aims of the project are to integrate the molecular and genetic maps of wheat, maize and rice genomes and to provide a service to screen probes of known sequence for polymorphisms between parents of the EGRAM mapping populations. Most of the work will be RFLP analysis of cDNAs and cross- mapping probes between populations of wheat doubled haploid lines (Chinese Spring x SQ1), maize immortalised F3s (Polj 17 x F- 2), F3 families (DT79xB73) or recumbent inbred lines (from USA) and rice recombinant inbreds and F3 families (IR20x63-83). In addition to helping to develop an EGRAM set of anchor probes and mapping them, probes in regions of wheat and maize populations carrying QTLs of interest will be mapped into rice.
