Abstract

An understanding of DNA organisation within the cereal genome is central to our ability to manipulate the genotype in a directed manner, both during conventional breeding and selection and, when it becomes routinely possible, in the production of transgenic plants. Molecular and biochemical marker- based genetic maps of millet, Pennisetum glaucum, have been developed in cooperation with breeders at ICRISAT, India. A UK database to include all molecular information pertaining to maps and sticks has been developed.
