Abstract

This project is part of a large consortium of European laboratories that are systematically investigating the functions of transcription factors in Arabidopsis. The main tasks of the participants in this consortium are the characterisation of insertional mutants, the assembly of a transcription factor cDNA array, and a large scale effort to investigate interactions between transcription factors in a yeast two-hybrid system. Each participant in the consortium has been allocated a set of genes encoding transcription factors. Our lab is focusing on transcription factors with potetial roles in regulating secodary metabolism, including members of the R2R3 MYB family, the single MYB-domain family, the AP2 family and the bHLH family. Mutants identified from insrtion mutagenised populations will be analysed by metabolic profiling for changes in secodary metabolites. This approach will lead to the identification of genes regulating important branches of secodary metabolism in plants and provide effective tools for the manipulation of plant metabolism and the synthesis of valuable plant products.
