Abstract

Aerial hyphal sporulation genes of Streptomyces coelicolor do not contain the rare leucine codon TTA, which is largely confined to regulatory and resistance genes associated with antibiotic production. By inserting TTA codons into sporulation genes and by manipulating the expression of the bldA gene that encodes the cognate tRNA, we will evaluate the significance of TTA codons for tissue-specificity of gene expression, and develop a novel suppressor system for use in the study of Streptomyces differentiation.
