Abstract
This project aims to develop novel polymer types through genetic manipulation of starch biosynthesis in plants. Specifically the genes encoding biosynthetic enzymes will be cloned and the function properties of the proteins will be defined in E. coli and Chlamydomonas. Novel activities will be created with chimaeric proteins and mutagenesis. The characteristics of modified glucan polymers will be defined chemically and physically.
