Abstract
Molecular markers for the genetic analysis of a wide range of traits in Brassica crops and related wild species are being developed. Over 200 highly informative Brassica RFLP probes and a variety of isozyme and RAPD markers have been produced. Microspore-culture has been developed and applied extensively to the production of large segregating populations of doubled haploid lines. Genetic linkage maps of a number of Brassica species have been produced and a B. rapa map is under construction. It is planned to increase the density of RFLP defined loci on the B. napus map over the next three years and a target of 1400 loci has been agreed. In addition, technology which will allow RFLP markers to be converted into PCR-based markers is being developed.
