Abstract

The output of the cereal genome organisation studies at JIC is becoming vast and includes DNA stocks, microsatellite primers, STS primers, cDNA and genomic plasmid libraries, ? libraries and BAC libraries as well as information, including DNA sequences, genetic maps, mapping data for immortal populations and, most recently, comparative mapping data. These materials have been developed in wheat, barley, rice, pearl millet, foxtail millet and finger millet and are a valuable resource not only for the cereal genome groups at JIC but also elsewhere in the UK (particularly at IGER, Aberystwyth and SCRI, Dundee) and world-wide. The function of the DNA resource centre is to maintain all DNA stocks, and to handle their distribution to collaborating groups. The resource centre also assumes an advisory role to the correct handling and cataloguing of DNA materials for all groups in the cereal genome programme.
