Abstract

This core project covers the leadership and management of the bioinformatics group, several core bioinformatics research projects and the provision of bioinformatics and systems biology support of IAH science projects. Leadership and management of the bioinformatics project includes strategy development for both the research and support roles of the group and the publication and promotion of the work done by the group both internally and externally, using peer-reviewed publications, provision of web-tools and information, and presentations at external conferences and meetings. Also included is the management of a number of external projects and a studentship. Several research and support projects are also carried out. These come under the themes of data integration and management; gene prediction and annotation; comparative genomics; functional genomics; and systems biology. Work in these themes includes bioinformatics research (novel algorithm development, novel tool development, mathematical modelling and the use of electronic tools to extract more information from data) and bioinformatics support (the provision of tools, advice and expertise to IAH scientists).
