Abstract
The objectives of this project are (1) to show the genetic relationships between new isolates of FMD virus causing outbreaks of disease around the world with those already held in the WRL for FMD; (2) to identify and monitor the appearance of new strains of FMD virus in the field by comparison with historical isolates; and (3) to determine if intertypic and/or intratypic recombination can be detected in FMD viruses isolated from outbreaks of disease in the field.
